Tregaarden’s Julehus: Norway’s Christmas Shop, open 365 days a year

Crazy about Christmas? Then you simply have to visit a Christmas shop that’s open all year round. It’s such a fun experience to wander through a red-and-green themed store in the middle of summer, searching for ornaments and decorations! In Germany, there’s the famous Käthe Wohlfahrt shop in Rothenburg ob der Tauber. But you’ll also find a beautiful Christmas store in the south of Norway that’s open 365 days a year: Tregaarden’s Julehus.

The picturesque town of Drøbak

Tregaarden’s Julehus is located in the charming town of Drøbak, about 35 kilometers south of Oslo. Drøbak is a popular destination among tourists. Not only because of the Christmas shop, but also thanks to its picturesque houses and numerous art galleries. If you love the water, Drøbak is a great spot to relax as well. The town lies on the Oslofjord and there are several places where you can swim and enjoy the beautiful view of the rocky shoreline.

Tregaarden’s Julehus Christmas Shop

Everything you’ll find at Tregaarden’s Julehus is all about Christmas. From ornaments and cuddly Christmas toys to games, postcards, socks and miniature houses; it’s festive from top to bottom! It feels a little surreal stepping into a Christmas wonderland while wearing your summer clothes, but that’s part of the charm. Be sure to take your time. There’s a lot to see, especially if you’re a true Christmas fan.

The shop is full of unique Christmas items you won’t find in regular stores. It’s not cheap, but that’s something you can expect when shopping in Norway. Luckily, there are often some discounted products. And if not, well… you might have to dig a little deeper into your wallet. But you’ll walk away with a special Christmas souvenir from Norway that you won’t find anywhere else!

The Official Santa Claus Post Office

Tregaarden’s Julehus is home to the official post office of Santa Claus. From here, you can send a card or letter that will be stamped with Santa’s official postmark. Children from all over the world use the address of Tregaarden’s Julehus in Drøbak when writing to Santa. In the shop, you’ll find baskets and crates overflowing with mail; all addressed to Santa himself.

When to visit Tregaarden’s Julehus

If you’re staying in Oslo and have a rental car, Drøbak makes for a fun little day trip. Continue your journey to the historic town of Fredrikstad and you’ve got yourself a perfect day out from the capital. I visited both Tregaarden’s Julehus and Fredrikstad while traveling from Oslo to the Värmland region in Sweden.

Other things to do in Drøbak

Planning to spend a bit more time in Drøbak? There’s plenty to see and do. As mentioned earlier, the Oslofjord is a great spot for swimming in summer. You’ll find changing cabins and ladders into the water at various spots, such as Badeparken Drøbak. Traveling with kids? Then Drøbak Akvarium is a must-visit. This small aquarium showcases fish and plant species that live in the Oslofjord and collaborates with marine biologists from the University of Oslo. Drøbak also has two museums and several art galleries. Plus, you’ll find charming little shops and cozy cafés, some even with outdoor seating.
